I believe Perumbadavam understands Dostoyevsky and his mind very deeply. This gives us insight into the scope and depth of human mind. Aug 18, Alex Mathew rated it liked it I feel this is pretty much overrated novel.. Some part of the writing has some literary merit, but unfortunately it is undone in other part by mushy, maudlin, unnecessarily melodramatic type of writing..
Also this book is tad lengthy with shoddy editing work on the part of editor.. Set in Russia in the mid s, the novel narrates a phase of the great Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevskys life, that urged him to develop and write his novel The Gambler which was later published in The highlight of this book is Fyodor himself, the profound thinker, the pure and the brave soul he is. Every unfortunate experience that life threw at him let him swim through and touch the depths of his own mind.
As someone Author wins at the short but intense delivery of a humble storyline. As someone who has explored the truest nature of human mind through himself, he led a life following his heart and never tried to run away from what his heart truly yearned for, despite often being judged as bad by the world. So much respect towards the author for this brilliant portrayal that truly justifies the great human being Fyodor is.
This is considered one of best Malayalam novels of all time. Initially, I found that hard to agree with, but once half way through, this was easily the finest piece of fiction with somewhat a classical touch that I who is only a cornucopia of novels old had ever read till date in Malayalam.
