These ports can be used for connecting PCs, servers, and hubs. The eight multi-speed ports use standard twisted pair cabling and are ideal for segmenting networks into small, connected subnets.

Page Front-panel Components Switch along with an explanation of each indicator. The Switch is then reset for normal operation. It takes about 2 seconds for the Switch to reset. The entire Cable Diagnostic process takes about 17 seconds from the time the Switch is booted. Check the technical specification section for information about the AC power input voltage. Figure Wall-mounting Kit If any item is found missing or damaged, please contact your local D-Link Reseller for replacement.

Before You Connect to the Network The site where you install the Switch may greatly affect its performance. Please follow these guidelines for setting up the Switch. Two mounting slots are provided on the bottom of the switch for this purpose. Please make sure that the front panel is exposed in order to view the LEDs. Please refer to the illustration below: A. Mounting on a cement wall After the Switch is powered on, the LED indicators will momentarily blink.

This blinking of the LED indicators represents a reset of the system. The end node can be connected to any of the ports of the Switch. Page Glossary A port which does not learn device addresses, and which receives all frames with an unknown address. Backbone ports are normally used to connect the Switch to the backbone of your network.

Note that backbone ports were formerly known as designated downlink ports. Page 20 The port in a resilient link that will take over data transmission if the main port in the link fails.

The switch learns the addresses associated with each switch port and builds tables based on this information to be used for the switching decision. VT screens have a text-based appearance. 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch

When a computer or network equipment is shutdown, switches often remain on and continue to consume considerable amount of power. With Green Ethernet technology, D-Link switches can automatically detect link status and reduce power usage of ports that are idle. Computers or any connecting parties set to standby mode not power off , however, will not provide significant power savings. Power Savings by Cable Length The Green Ethernet switches have the ability to analyze the length of any Ethernet cable connected to them for adjustment of power usage accordingly. Shorter lengths require less power. Overall Power Savings Per Day For a traditional switch, power consumption remains constant even when the ports are not in use. Note: Switch uses switching power adapter.

With a durable design, silent operation, and plug-and-play functionality, DGSD switch can be easily set up and be placed in almost any location where network connectivity is required. Support for IEEE These ports detect the network speed and auto-negotiate between 10Base-T and Base-TX at full and half-duplex, and Base-TX at full duplex, allowing you to get the maximum speed possible for each device connected to your network. Each port can be plugged in directly to a server, hub, router, or switch using regular straight-through twisted-pair Ethernet cables.
